Hey y'all! I'm another member of our small team. Waring and I are married, and we started this up together.
A little about me... I grew up in Texas, taught in Japan for a year and a half (where I met Warin), then moved the Minnesota, where I currently reside. I have a bunch of hobbies and have always really enjoyed anime and manga. I'm actually the one that got Warin into One Piece, believe it or not! So when a friend got into OPTCG and invited us to play, we got really into it.
I'm new to TCGs, with One Piece being my first introduction to the hobby. Because of that, I've got some unique perspectives of a starting player. I plan to give Pokemon and Magic the Gathering a try as well, since we plan to sell those cards in our shop. I feel that it's important to have at least a decent understanding of the games and how they work in order to talk, discuss, and sell them effectively.
So about OPTCG, since that's the game I play right now... I'm running a black/green Perona deck that I really enjoy. I love the aspect of cost in the game, though I recognize that it's a pita for most players. That being said, I have yet to win against Warin's Reiju deck, so "overpowered" I think not. I haven't gotten all the cards I want for this deck, but it is taking shape into something I really enjoy.
Currently working on a blue/green Rosinante deck... which is a mess, to say the least. We got into OPTCG after 07 came out, and kinda missed out on the previous boosters. We managed to snag some Treasure Boosters, but unfortunately did not pull my Rosinante leader or a lot for cards to go with it. I have a placeholder until my leader arrives (first card I've actually sought out to purchase online!!) and have been working on a deck list for it.
Unfortunately, it seems this deck is NOT popular whatsoever, lol, and isn't exactly... cohesive or strong. I have a lot of navy I'm filling it with, but will slowly migrate to Donquixote Pirates as I gather the cards. Look forward to it, because once it's half-decent, I'll be playing him on stream. Until then, Perona will be my main showcase.
One another note, in regards to MtG, Warin and I bought some Bloomburrow starters. From what I've heard, they aren't very strong. But this is okay. I feel like Bloomburrow is a fantastic introduction to Magic, as honestly the immense size and capacity of the game makes it a very daunting task to get into. Bloomburrow, with its simple yet recognizable creatures and straightforward deck list makes it feasible that even I, unfamiliar with MtG, can get into it and understand the gameplay.
Pokemon and Lorcana (I'd like to give this a try at some point) will come after, and I'll likely make a blog post about it when the time comes.
